Rhino #2 found

Wednesday, November 23, 2005 12:40:11 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
The second rhino was found today by Chrystal Perrin. We had the whole Life Group pitching in, but Chrystal definately put in the majority of the work on this one. She called Qwest and Clark Public Utilities, downloaded and tried to use google earth on a dialup connection, stopped a Qwest field tech for help, and made a trip down to the Clark Public Utilities building. While at CPU, she had them pull up the website and look at all the clues which resulted in one of the help desk people there pointing her in the direction of a street he thought matched the one in the video. This resulted in the eventual location of the rhino!  Congratulations Chrystal!

Here's the comment Chrystal posted on the Living Hope Church blog:

Completely Intense. Week two was too tough!! The first clue you may as well fast forward to Tuesday because there was no way you were going to get into your vehicle and search that day. Tuesday-Clue #2 We headed out towards the jungles of Clark County in search of THE Rhino. We headed north as it said in Clue#1. Then used Clue #2's dialogue from Abi. She said Numero Duece so we thought hey dueces are wild. High Stakes were thinking still the poker theme going on. Then you can cut this, as in cut the deck you probably guessed our destination by now. LaCenter! Driving around in the dark we crossed the bridge right before the casinos and it was a tribute to the troops with yellow ribbons aligning both sides of the bridge we thought that was the "risk your lives" part of Abi's video we went under the bridge, around the bridge over the bridge no rhino. Three hours later we decided to call it a day heading home exhausted and hungry with no rhino in hand.
Wednesday-Clue #3 I immediately got on the phone and spoke with Clark PUD Cindy who works there gave me all 7 of the pud poles with 46 listed on them. We headed towards the only one that was north. It wasn't the right one we ran into a Qwest truck asked him for help locating the pole he said it wasn't one of their's we had reached a dead end.
We stopped at Chevron got gas, then immediately proceeded towards the golden arches to satisfy our hunger. We then went to Clark PUD to show them the actual picture of the pole. Jason and John were extremely helpful they sent us North towards battle ground lake area. We saw the trees from the video and got excited but still no rhino. On our way home getting ready to put our guns on the shelf for day three we finally see a number 32 poll we were like shut up! Then 31, 30, 29 quick turn around and follow those numbers. 33, 34,35,36--43,44,45 No Way! We saw the orange and white stripe barracade! Huge maple leaves! We started running, adrenaline pumping. Just then pole 46 oh my goodness! Then a barn and traffic we can hear the noise, the tree straight ahead on a huge bluff. We looked no rhino looked to other trees surrounding nope, checked the picture and straight ahead the tree overlooking the bluff we were like, "that has to be it." Down on the bottom a rock on top of a ziploc bag with you guessed it the RHINO!! We Screamed we danced we ran all the way back to the car yelling "WE FOUND THE RHINO!! Talk about INTENSE!! To all you other hunters out there. Nothing is more intense then the gut wrenching, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, satisfaction of finding what you are looking for!! If this is any clue as to what is to come. Brace yourselves you are in for a thrilling ride where anything is possible and the clues aren't always what they seem to be.

Rhino Hunt -Week 2 - Clues 2 & 3

Wednesday, November 23, 2005 12:39:10 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)

Clue 2 is a video. Tabi talks about hiding the rhino. We see clips of big leaves, an orange and white barricade with a trail going past, Qwest paint on the ground, and a road with trees overhanging it. From what Tabi was saying it sure sounded like La Center - "Duece", "High Stakes", and "you can cut this" definately could have been refering to the Casinos. Only the fact that Qwest doesn't provide telephone service there rules it out.

Rhino Hunt

Wednesday, November 16, 2005 12:54:32 PM (Pacific Standard Time, UTC-08:00)
I was excited when I heard about the rhino hunt at church on Sunday. They said there would be a hunt every week for the next month or so. I had always wanted to find the Rose Festival Medallion when I was younger, but it's pretty hard when you don't have a driver's license. This was my chance.  I checked the church's web site Sunday evening... nothing, and again when I woke up Monday morning...nothing. Then it was time for work.  I checked a few more times during the day, and finally about 2pm a post from the Living Hope Blog showed up in my aggregator. I had the first clue!!!

Past the Mill,
In between the Redwood and Sequoia,
Among a rock and a hard place.
The waterfall keeps me company.

Hmmmm.... What could that mean? A mill and some big trees? Sarah comes in and says "Mill could be Mill Plain!" "Great Idea Honey!" I fire up Google earth and look around. Sure enough, right at the East end of Mill Plain there are 2 streets, Redwood Cir, and Sequoia Cir. "That's got to be it!" I yell. "They have all of these little ponds around the business complex there." As soon as my last meeting for the day was over, we piled the kids in the minivan and took off toward Tech Center Drive. When we got there, I was glad to see that no one else appeared to be there yet. We parked and jumped out of the van to look around the first waterfall we saw. I had no idea how big the rhino was supposed to be so we looked everywhere... nothing. "This has to be the place. I sure hope no one else has been here already and found it."
Sarah got back in the van and drove down the road to find a parking spot near the next area and I walked. The next park area was a pond divided in half by a narrow spot with a bridge. As I got closer, sure enough, there is a waterfall on the other side of the bridge. I climbed down to the rocks and looked around. There, between some rocks, hidden from view from above, I saw something. I reached in and pulled it out. A plastic bag wrapped with duct tape. I removed the tape and bag and there it was! A. Rhino!!!   I had found it! Sarah was just coming back down the street. I held the rhino above my head triumphantly! "I found it!"... "We found it." Sarah corrects me. I gave her a big hug.
To top it off, Monday was my birthday, what more could I ask for?
